However, it is still sometimes considered new to many teachers in Japan, where for a variety of reasons CLT has never quite taken hold, and indeed has often left educators or institutions frustrated and looking for viable alternatives. Nevertheless, TBLT continues to grow as a dominant approach to language education worldwide, as evidenced by the increasing popularity of task-based iterations of tests such as the new TOEIC, descriptor systems such as the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and commercial task-based textbooks.
