概要 As a refinement to communicative language teaching (CLT), task-based language teaching (TBLT) began developing over two decades ago, most famously in the seminal work of Prabhu in India in the 1980’s. However, it is still sometimes considered new to many teachers in Japan, where for a variety of reasons CLT has never quite taken hold, and indeed has often left educators or institutions frustrated and looking for viable alternatives. Nevertheless, TBLT continues to grow as a dominant approach to language education worldwide, as evidenced by the increasing popularity of task-based iterations of tests such as the new TOEIC, descriptor systems such as the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, and commercial task-based textbooks.
